California Space Grant & Partners Complete Three Community College Projects

The California Space Grant Consortium (CaSGC) and its affiliates and partners completed three programs involving Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) community college students in university research, preparing them for careers and advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and increasing diversity and inclusiveness in CaSGC programs. These were held in the spring and summer of 2014 in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange County. Click here to learn more.

Cygnus Delivers Supplies to ISS

Orbital Sciences’ Cygnus cargo spacecraft was installed to the Harmony module of the International Space Station with no issues. The Expedition 40 crew will begin unloading approximately 3,300 pounds of science investigations, food and supplies when the hatch between the newly arrived spacecraft and the Harmony module of the space station is opened Thursday. The spacecraft is scheduled to spend about a month attached to the station.

Student Spaceflight Experiments Lift Off

Students from the Mark West Unified School District were among the lucky teams chosen to send an experiment to the International Space Station. This unique project was part of the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program (SSEP.) The California Space Grant Consortium was proud to have been one of the sponsors who helped make this dream a reality for the 5th through 8th grade budding scientists. Continue reading

NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover Celebrates One Martian Year

On June 24, 2014 NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover will complete one Martian Year of service, which is the equivalent of 687 Earth days. The primary goal of the mission was accomplished when it determined that Mars was once habitable for simple, microbial life forms. The rover sampled material from two mudstone slabs located on the Red Planet.  Analysis of these samples found that they contained elemental ingredients for life.

CaSGC Southern California Affiliate Meeting

On Friday, April 18, 2014 the California Space Grant Consortium (CaSGC) held its Southern California affiliate meeting at University of California, Los Angeles. The meeting was attended by staff from NASA / Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, affiliates, partners, and students from the Los Angeles metropolitan area, San Diego, and Sacramento, and CaSGC Headquarters staff.
