CaSGC Undergraduate Engineering Seminar

The California Space Grant Consortium is pleased to announce the Undergraduate Engineering Seminars series, designed to introduce undergraduate students to funded research opportunities.

Information for upcoming seminar, May 29, 2013:

Speaker: Tim Wheeler, Senior in Aerospace Engineering

Topic: Tim will discuss his work with rockets, drones and near-space balloons and bring to light many of the opportunities available to engineering students at UCSD. Tim will touch upon research with faculty, student competition teams, and industry internships, specifically with his own involvement in research under Dr. John Kosmatka, the UCSD Near Space Balloon Team, the UCSD Autonomous Airplane Team, and an internship at Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). “Out of this World” is meant to encourage and empower students to apply themselves and take advantage of the opportunities which surround them.

Mars Science Lab Seminar at UC San Diego

In early November the California Space Grant Consortium and the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination held a dynamic seminar with NASA/JPL’s Brian Schratz, lead engineer for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Entry Descent and Landing (EDL) telecommunications team. Speaking to a packed auditorium in UC San Diego’s Structural & Materials Engineering Building Presentation Lab, Mr. Schratz described NASA’s past missions in the Mars Exploration Program, which found evidence for sustained interactions with liquid water, and the current MSL mission to explore a local region on Mars as a potential habitat for life, past or present.

Jim Arnold Lecture 2012

On Friday, May 4, 2012 the 2012 Jim Arnold lecture featuring Planetary Scientist Ralph Harvey, Ph.D. of the Department of Geological Sciences, Case Western Reserve University will take place. He will be speaking on “Antarctic Meteorites: Sifting the Sands of the Solar System”.

Free Faculty Workshop at NASA Kennedy Space Center: July 19th & 20th, 2012

We are pleased to announce the 2012 Exploration Space Grant Faculty Workshop to be held July 19 & 20 at Kennedy Space Center.

The workshop will cover the newly developed and tested senior design course “Hybrid Rocket Experiment Station for Capstone Design” as well as the NASA Systems Engineering Process, senior design projects, and incorporating the NASA Systems Engineering Process into senior design projects. (more…)
