Professor Christopher Russell, the California Space Grant Consortium’s campus director for UC Los Angeles, was invited to give a talk at the National Council of Space Grant Directors Fall Meeting in Charleston, South Carolina in October. Supported by the California Space Grant, the presentation was entitled The Dawn Discovery Mission: A Voyage in Space and Time.

- Encouraging and preparing students in associate degree programs for STEM degrees and careers
- Increasing participation of underrepresented minorities and females in STEM.

Performance Period: March 1, 2014 through May 31, 2014
Award Amount: $10,000

IDEA Student Center Scholars
The California Space Grant Consortium and The IDEA Student Center at the University of California, San Diego joined efforts this year to award research scholarships to ten deserving IDEA Scholars. Selected students were awarded $1,000 each and were asked to create a project related to Smart Solar Farms, under the guidance of UCSD Professor Carlos Coimbra.
The California Space Grant is pleased to provide an opportunity for two California students studying Aero/Astro to intern for 10 days at Kennedy Space Center next January. During this time they will shadow NASA engineers to learn about their research, the new post-space shuttle environment, and the systems engineering approach at NASA.
