1. Your Idea In Space: What Would You Send to the ISS?

The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) is running a contest for ideas: How would you use the International Space Station (ISS) National Lab to bring the benefits of space-based research and development back home to Earth?

First Prize: $10,000, a three-night expenses paid trip to Florida to meet with CASIS officials, a one-day pass to Walt Disney World in Orlando, a special tour of NASA John F. Kennedy Space Center, and a chance to witness a CASIS payload launch to the International Space Station.

2. Fifth Annual Robotic Mining Competition Registration

3. RASC-AL: 2014 Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts-Academic Linkage Competition

Looking for innovative ideas from undergrad and grad engineering students related to NASA’s Human Space Exploration program. Themes:

  • Enabling Long Duration Missions through Holistic Habitat Design
  • Human Assisted Sample Return
  • Tele-operated robot

4. NASA Sample Return Robot Challenge–Registration is open for teams wishing to compete in the $1.495 million robotics competition known as the Sample Return Robot Challenge, sponsored by NASA and managed by Worcester Polytechnic University. The objective is to encourage innovations in automatic navigation and robotic manipulator technologies that NASA could incorporate into future missions.

Registration closes January 7, 2014 (late registration through March 15, 2014)

Competition will be held June 11-13, 2014.

5. Inspiration Mars Mission–International Engineering Competition for student teams to propose design concepts for the architecture of the “Inspiration Mars” mission. The requirement is to design a two-person Mars flyby mission for 2018 as cheaply, safely and simply as possible.

First Place prize: $10,000
