NASA Visit to UC San Diego–July 15, 2014

NASA will be on the UCSD campus for the “Destination Station” event (Tuesday, July 15, 2014) with Astronaut Chris Cassidy (12:00-12:30 p.m).  The primary purpose of this event is to inform the UCSD community about funding opportunities for research on the International Space Station.

10:00 – 4:30 p.m.: NASA Driven to Explore mobile exhibit open outside the Price Center
11:30-12:00 p.m.: (Tentative) Informal astronaut meet and greet with students/alumni and family
12:00-12:30 p.m.: NASA Astronaut Chris Cassidy presentation (bio attached)
12:30-1:30 p.m.: Camille Alleyne, Ed.D., space station assistant program scientist at NASA’s Johnson Space Center /Patrick O’Neill, Marketing and Communications Manager, Center for Advancement of Science in Space /TBD representative from the Reduced Gravity Education Flight Program or UCSD participant
1:30-1:45 p.m.: Break
1:45-3:00 p.m.: UCSD Researchers Present. This includes:
·         Alan Hargens-“Physiologic Adaptation to Space Flight and Intervertebral Disc Damage after Prolonged Space Flight” (15 mins)
·         Kim Prisk, Professor, Departments of Medicine and Radiology, “Taking your lungs to the ISS” (30-mins)
·         Brinda Rana- “Twins in Space” (15 mins)
·         Brandon Macias NSBRI Postdoctoral Fellow – “Fluid Shifts” (15 mins)
3:00-3:30 p.m.: Q&A after all presentations
3:30 p.m.: Event ends, informal Q&A outside near mobile exhibit
