For  the past few months, the California Space Grant Consortium headquarters  office has been working with Physics and Engineering Department Chair Jayesh Bhakta on an exciting distance learning project to  facilitate an Arduino-driven sensor vest to be used in conjunction with  <a href=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?p=3122\">Amusement Park Physics<\/a> activities. The sensor vest measures the  amusement park rider&#8217;s heart rate, skin conductivity, and acceleration along 6 axes while on the ride. The vest is also equipped  with a GPS sensor.<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><br \/>\n<!--more--><center><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4092\" href=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?attachment_id=4092\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4092\" title=\"LACC Arduino Project\" src=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lacc2.jpg\" alt=\"LACC Arduino Project\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/center><br clear=\"all\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><br \/>\n&#8220;This project has allowed more than ten of our students to become  involved with a hands-on activity and talk in real-time with engineers  in both academia and industry,&#8221; explains Dr. Bhakta. &#8220;In addition to  giving us insight into implementation of Arduino projects, the Skype interactions with a UCSD aerospace engineering student and a  Qualcomm engineer provided our LACC students with a glimpse of what it&#8217;s  like to study at a four-year engineering school and go on to be an  engineer in the telecommunications industry.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><center><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4101\" href=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?attachment_id=4101\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4101\" title=\"LACC Arduino Project\" src=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/lacc1.jpg\" alt=\"LACC Arduino Project\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/center><br clear=\"all\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\nAdditional photographs and videos of the Arduino project can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/s1278.photobucket.com\/user\/kimbruch\/library\/LACC%20Arduino%20Project\">http:\/\/s1278.photobucket.com\/user\/kimbruch\/library\/LACC%20Arduino%20Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Located in the heart of LA, Los Angeles City College has a diverse student population with more than 58 percent minorities.
