It accomplishes this through several vehicles, including merit-based competitions like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/directorates\/spacetech\/centennial_challenges\/index.html#.UjctkX8pgQI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Centennial Challenges<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/directorates\/spacetech\/strg\/index.html#.Ujctqn8pgQI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Space Tech Research Grants<\/span><\/a> in academia and industry, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/directorates\/spacetech\/sbir_sttr\/index.html#.UjctR38pgQI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Small Business Innovation Research<\/a> programs for small, high tech companies and research institutions, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/directorates\/spacetech\/strg\/2013_nstrf_class.html#.UjczX38pgQJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship<\/a> program, for which the FY14 program has just been <a href=\"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/NSTRF14-Flier.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>.
