Are you\u00a0<\/span><\/span>considering applying to grad school and interested in oceanography as a career path? \u00a0Contemplating a career in scientific\u00a0research and\u00a0development?<\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span>
The Marine Physical Laboratory, at UC San Diego\u2019s\u00a0world\u00a0renowned Scripps Institution of\u00a0Oceanography, is currently seeking\u00a0inquisitive,\u00a0motivated undergraduate students with exceptional\u00a0aptitude for\u00a0quantitative science to apply for the\u00a02018 MPL Summer Internship Program.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
Undergraduate college students majoring in Oceanography, Applied\u00a0Mathematics, Engineering, Physics,\u00a0Chemistry, Biology or Geology are\u00a0encouraged to\u00a0apply. This ten-week internship will offer qualified\u00a0students\u00a0the opportunity to work with some of the\u00a0most notable scientists in the world\u00a0and learn about\u00a0marine science and technology while earning a\u00a0modest salary.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

ABOUT YOU<\/span>
******************<\/span>
* Currently enrolled\u00a0<\/span>as 1st, 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate – and not in your senior year – at a college or\u00a0<\/span><\/span>university<\/span>\u00a0with a major applicable to\u00a0research done at MPL<\/span><\/div>\n
* A U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
* Considering a career in scientific research<\/span>
* Available to start at MPL in La Jolla, California, in June 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
* Available to work the duration of the\u00a0internship, ten consecutive weeks from\u00a0the start\u00a0date, for 40 hours per week at a salary of $14\/hr<\/span><\/div>\n
* Not a\u00a0former MPL summer intern<\/span><\/div>\n
* OK with working a short distance from some of\u00a0Southern\u00a0California’s best beaches and surf<\/span>

The Marine Physical Laboratory (MPL) is an\u00a0organized research\u00a0unit of the University of\u00a0California, San Diego (UCSD) and lab at the Scripps\u00a0Institution of Oceanography.<\/span>
\u00a0<\/span>
Originally established as a Navy-orientated research\u00a0laboratory in 1946, MPL has maintained a strong\u00a0multidisciplinary research\u00a0program consisting\u00a0entirely of sponsored projects, with a large\u00a0sponsorship\u00a0from the Department of Defense (DOD)\u00a0and the National Science Foundation\u00a0(NSF).<\/span>
