{"id":7832,"date":"2020-02-12T09:09:08","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T17:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?p=7832"},"modified":"2020-02-12T09:09:08","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T17:09:08","slug":"summer-2020-internship-opportunities-at-nasa-goddard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?p=7832","title":{"rendered":"Summer 2020 Internship Opportunities at NASA Goddard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research at the NASA&nbsp;Goddard&nbsp;Institute for Space Studies (GISS) emphasizes a broad study of global change, which is an interdisciplinary initiative addressing natural and man-made changes in our environment that occur on various time scales \u2014 from one-time forcings such as volcanic explosions, to seasonal and annual effects such as El Ni\u00f1o, and on up to the millennia of ice ages \u2014 and that affect the habitability of our planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The current summer internship projects being offered for high school, undergraduate and graduate students this summer include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GISS is located at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Columbia University<\/a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York City<\/a>. The institute is a laboratory in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/earthsciences.gsfc.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Earth Sciences Division<\/a>&nbsp;of NASA&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/goddard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Goddard&nbsp;Space Flight Center<\/a>&nbsp;and is affiliated with the Columbia&nbsp;Institute and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/engineering.columbia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Engineering and Applied Science<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Atmospheric Rivers in a Changing Climate<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Characterizing the Urban Land Surface Temperature<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Earth Observation Applications for Resiliency<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Climate Change in the Hudson Estuary<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Analysis of Climate Model Simulations<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Data Management and Dissemination for the NASA Research Scanning Polarimeter<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Hardware and connectivity upgrades for the NASA Research Scanning Polarimeter<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Live Monitor for the NASA Research Scanning Polarimeter<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Smartphone monitoring application for the NASA Research Scanning Polarimeter<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Water Mass formation rates and pathways in the World Ocean<\/strong><\/li><li><a><strong>New method to estimate cloud droplet number concentration using remote sensing&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong>Construction of a flexible cloud mask from spaceborne lidar atmospheric profiles&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The application period for the summer closes on March 8<sup>th<\/sup>.
