{"id":8634,"date":"2022-08-30T12:17:36","date_gmt":"2022-08-30T19:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?p=8634"},"modified":"2022-08-30T12:17:36","modified_gmt":"2022-08-30T19:17:36","slug":"airport-cooperative-research-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/casgc.ucsd.edu\/?p=8634","title":{"rendered":"Airport Cooperative Research Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The FAA-sponsored Airport Cooperative Research Program\u2019s University Design Competition for Addressing Airport Needs provides an outstanding\u00a0opportunity for individual students or student teams working under the guidance of faculty advisors to design solutions to real-world issues addressing our nation\u2019s airports and the National Air System.<\/p>\n<p>Students win cash prizes ($3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second, and $1,000 for third place) in each of four different broad categories:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul type=\"circle\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li>Airport Operation and Maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Airport Management\u00a0and Planning<\/li>\n<li>Airport Environmental Interactions<\/li>\n<li>Runway Safety\/ Runway Incursions\/Runway Excursions Including Aprons, Ramps, and Taxiway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Airport needs embrace many disciplines including all engineering fields, environmental science, business, data science, computer science, psychology,\u00a0and many others.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of multidisciplinary topics are suggested, but students can come up with their own relevant topics for their design solution.\u00a0 The Competition is\u00a0an excellent open-ended design project for capstone courses and is also frequently used in other courses, for independent study, or as a professional\u00a0society student chapter project.<\/p>\n<p>First place winners present their work at an award ceremony at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, D.C., and also\u00a0at a relevant national professional conference.\u00a0 All expenses are covered.<\/p>\n<p>Interaction with airport operators and industry experts is required.\u00a0 The Competition provides access to experts and to airport operators through\u00a0its program website.<br \/>\nThe Competition runs from August 16, 2022\u00a0to May\u00a012, 2023.\u00a0 Students can work in either or both academic semesters.\u00a0 Additional information\u00a0regarding the\u00a0ACRP\u00a0University Design Competition can be found at the Competition website located at\u00a0<a title=\"Original URL: http:\/\/www.trb.org\/ACRP\/ACRPDesignCompetition.aspx.
