NASA FALL MITTIC COMPETITION
- On October 12, 2023
Your career pathway can start HERE, no matter your major! The NASA Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) Innovation and Tech Transfer Idea Competition (MITTIC) is seeking HBCU and minority serving institutions(MSIs) teams of students from all fields of study to rise to the challenge of creating new and innovative technologies to benefit your community and the world. MITTIC provides a resume-worthy experience, an opportunity to gain or show off your entrepreneurial skills, money, and bragging rights for your school. This #SpaceToPitch is a chance to develop your own “spinoff” idea into a lucrative business opportunity in the future. Join us for a live virtual information session on Mondays and Thursdays from noon-1 p.m. CT on Microsoft Teams, or contact us about scheduling a personalized session geared to faculty and/or students at your institution.
Here’s HOW it works:
And here’s WHY you should form a team:
Phase 1:
Choose one NASA Intellectual Property (IP) and create a product or service using that IP. Detail your concept in a proposal for MITTIC (5–8-page paper and 3–5-minute pitch).
Submit now – October 16, 2023
Here are some additional reminders for the coming competition cycles:
- $20,000 prize for 1st and $10,000 prize for 2nd! *$2,500 of each prize is sent directly to the PI as a stipend.
- NASA MITTIC is offering two opportunities to compete: Fall or Spring.
- Proposals for NASA MITTIC Fall are accepted from August 7, 2023, through October 16, 2023.
- Proposals for NASA MITTIC Spring are accepted from January 3, 2024, through March 13, 2024.
- Teams can use any NASA Intellectual Property (IP) from the patent portfolio as the basis for their spinoff concept. A list of 45 sample technologies can be found on our website but a NASA MITTIC proposal may utilize any NASA IP.
- We do not require prerequisites or training courses to be completed before a team may submit a proposal for the competition. However, teams who complete and submit proof of their training will receive additional points on their submitted proposal.
NASA MITTIC is a unique spinoff challenge that utilizes NASA’s unique STEM resources in concert with business and entrepreneurial skills. It is a great opportunity to engage with NASA technology, experts, businesses, and partners.
